AI Acceptable Usage Policy for the Application Process
Purpose
This policy outlines SIB’s expectations regarding the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools by candidates during the application and assessment process. It aims to ensure transparency, fairness, authenticity, and the accurate assessment of each individual’s skills, experience, and suitability for the role.
Awareness of AI Use
We recognise that applicants may use AI tools when preparing their application materials. However, candidates should be aware that AI-generated content often lacks specificity, may be generic in nature, and may fail to address key criteria required to answer the sift question. Applications that do not demonstrate personal insight, thought, individual experience, or a clear understanding of the sift question/role may score lower as a result.
Importance of Personalisation
We encourage candidates to answer sift questions personally, providing clear examples that reflect their own skills, thought, knowledge, and experiences.
Those answers that demonstrate genuine insight and personal reflection will achieve higher scores and are more likely to progress through the recruitment process.
Permitted Use of AI
AI tools may be used to support the structure of a candidate’s responses, such as helping to plan or outline answers. AI should not be used to generate full, unedited responses or to provide content that is copied and pasted directly into the application.
Where specific sift questions allow the use of AI for drafting support, this will be clearly stated.
Scoring and Identification of AI-Generated Content
Responses that appear heavily reliant on AI such as those that are overly generic, impersonal, or misaligned with the sift question and/or role profile will not be awarded the maximum possible score during the sifting process and my result in a candidate not progressing through to the next stage of the process.
Recruitment System (BeApplied) Monitoring
Our recruitment platform, BeApplied, includes functionality designed to help identify responses that may have been generated using AI. This includes highlighting where answers appear inconsistent with expected personal detail, thought or contextual understanding. While this feature does not determine scores automatically, it provides an additional prompt for assessors to review responses carefully. Candidates should therefore ensure that answers are their own and reflect their own experiences or thoughts.
Discouraging Over-Reliance on AI
Candidates are strongly discouraged from relying heavily on AI-generated content. Excessive use of AI may limit a candidate’s ability to present a compelling and authentic case for their suitability and may ultimately reduce their chances of progressing through the application process.
Compliance
By submitting an application, candidates confirm that their responses are truthful, represent their own experiences, and comply with this AI Acceptable Usage Policy.
