Community Energy Peer Mentoring Fund

Please note that this fund is now closed

Funded by Cabinet Office’s Centre for Social Action and the Department of Energy and Climate Change this fund supported community energy projects with grants to receive support and advice to get started with community energy projects.

12 community energy projects received grants totalling £500,000 to help fund projects including a community forum that provides workshops and assistance to communities to generate power using hydro energy and a social enterprise that sets up study visits and seminars for local community groups to help reduce their fossil fuel energy.

Currently, community energy groups work on a variety of different projects such as raising funds for solar panels on community buildings to installing energy efficiency measures to help communities save money on their energy bills.

The new funding was designed to help new groups working in this area to get off the ground so they can start saving money and generating energy in their community. It also helped existing groups to professionalise, develop business plans and scale up their work.

The Fund was open between Friday 15 November and noon on Thursday 12 December 2013.
