Community groups can also apply for grants to support them in taking on the ownership of assets to be transferred from public ownership. This includes preparing to bid to buy publicly or privately-owned land and buildings for community use.

Communities will be able to get support to acquire and manage assets such as village shops, pubs, community centres, heritage buildings, allotments and libraries.

Pre-feasibility grants between £5,000 and £10,000 are on offer to help organisations build the internal capacity needed to take ownership of assets. Organisations that can show evidence of plans to take over land or buildings can apply for grants of between £10,000 and £100,000 to help undertake feasibility studies to take on asset ownership and management.

Capital grants available to exemplar organisations with an innovative and ambitious idea to transform a local building

From 4 December 2012 until 8 February 2013 we will be accepting Expressions of Interest for the capital element of the Community Assets and Services Grants under the theme of Community Assets – Under the Hammer.

These grants are available for the purchase of assets identified either through Right to Bid or Community Asset Transfer.

If you think you can run and improve the way local services are delivered or you want to make sure that local buildings like the local pub aren’t sold off and lost to your local community these grants can help you get ready to deliver these services or take on ownership and management of buildings and land that are part of the fabric of your community.

We can offer pre-feasibility and feasibility grants to help your organisation develop the skills and knowledge you need to run services and/or own buildings.

We have £10m in grants to help you start preparing to take over delivery of a service from your local council and £16m available to get ready to buy / manage buildings and other assets that are important to your local community.
